U.S. DUO BRACE FOR FLACK.(ARTS & ENTERTA)

VENICE, Italy -- Director Robert Altman and star Richard Gere girded themselves for flak about political correctness at the world premiere Friday of ``Dr. T and the Women'' at the Venice Film Festival.

Skewering yet another slice of Americana, Altman tells the tale of a Dallas gynecologist awash in a sea of idle, affluent women -- wives, daughters, lovers, mothers.

The comedy bears all the trademarks of the man who directed ``M*A*S*H,'' ``McCabe & Mrs. Miller,'' ``Nashville'' and ``The Player'': ensemble acting at its freshest with a sharp satirical bite and a dash of the surreal.
