Qld: Private school isolates rugby team over SARS fears

An exclusive Queensland private school will keep 23 students and two teachers out ofclass for the next 10 days as a precaution against the deadly Severe Acute RespiratorySyndrome, or SARS.

The students, all members of The Southport School under-14 rugby team, return todayfrom Hong Kong after winning a week-long international rugby tournament.

Hundreds of Hong Kong residents have been infected by the pneumonia-like virus whichhas killed at least 62 people.

Headmaster BRUCE COOK says isolating the team and parents who went on the trip is aprecaution based on advice from the school medical officer and the director of infectiousdiseases at the Gold Coast Hospital.

Mr COOK says the trip was voluntary and SARS wasn't a major issue before the team lefta week ago.

He says all the students are in good health.
