Vic: Vic drivers face increased drug-driving roadside testing

From Friday .. Victorian motorists will be randomly tested for ecstasy .. in addition
to existing tests for cannabis and methamphetamines.

The new test .. using a salvia sample .. extends Victoria's world-first drug testing
program for drivers that began last year.

Victoria Police Minister TIM HOLDING says driving under the influence of drugs is a
major cause of road deaths and trauma in the state.

Last year .. more than 40 per cent of drivers killed in Victoria tested positive to
drugs other than alcohol.





Of the more than 21 thousand drivers drug-tested for cannabis and amphetamines last
year .. 436 .. or one in 49 .. tested positive to one or both drugs.
